Reconnaissance on a private individual usually starts the same way. Type the address into Google Maps, drop into Street View, screenshot the house. Cars on the drive. Door colour. Number on the wall. The neighbour's setup. Five minutes of work and a stranger has a full briefing on your home.

Three platforms run street-level imagery in the UK. All three will blur your property on request, for free, with no proof required. The actual process for each one is below.

1. Original imagery
2. Frame the request
3. Permanently blurred

Before you start

  • You can submit as the resident, the owner, or a representative. None of the platforms ask for proof.
  • Use a desktop browser. The Google and Bing tools do not work on mobile apps.
  • Submit one platform at a time. They are processed independently.
  • Frame slightly wider than the house. Include the driveway, regularly parked vehicles, and visible street numbers.

Google Street View

Permanent once accepted
Open Google Maps

Desktop only. The Google Maps mobile app does not expose the report tool.

  1. Search your address on Google Maps and drop into Street View. Drag the orange pegman onto the road outside your property, or click the Street View thumbnail.
  2. In the Street View pane, click Report a problem at the bottom right.
  3. Frame the red box around your house, vehicle, or anything else you want hidden.
  4. Under Request blurring, choose My home (or face, car, other as appropriate).
  5. Add a short note explaining why (e.g. "this is my private residence"), enter your email, complete the captcha, submit.
Notes
  • Google typically responds within 3 to 12 hours. The blur applies within roughly 24 hours of approval.
  • Once blurred, it stays blurred. Google will not reverse the request, even if you sell the property. Worth flagging if you ever plan to list.

Apple Look Around

Email request
Email Apple

No in-app form. Apple processes blur requests by email only.

  1. Open Apple Maps and check whether your property appears in Look Around (the binoculars icon).
  2. Email MapsImageCollection@apple.com from any device.
  3. Include your full postal address and a short description of the property (e.g. "semi-detached on the right with red door, blue fence").
  4. State that you are requesting the property be blurred from Look Around imagery.
  5. Send. Keep the sent message as your record. Apple does not auto-acknowledge.
Notes
  • Apple does not publish a turnaround time. Allow several weeks. There is no public ticketing system to chase.
  • Apple Look Around is only deployed in select cities. If your address is not in coverage, no action is needed.

Bing Streetside (Microsoft)

30 to 60 days
Open Bing Maps

Desktop browser. UK Streetside coverage is patchier than Google.

  1. Open Bing Maps and search your address.
  2. Enable Streetside from the map view options.
  3. Click directly on your property in the street-level view.
  4. Click Report a problem in the lower right corner.
  5. Complete the Report an image concern to Microsoft form. Specify "blur" rather than "remove".
Notes
  • Microsoft reviews every request and may blur, remove, or take no action. Case by case.
  • If approved, removal happens within 30 to 60 days of receiving the report.
  • Microsoft also runs a general concern form at microsoft.com/en-us/concern/bing if you cannot find the in-map link.

One consent form. 48 hours. Complete clarity.
